Forgotten Forgiveness

In the throes of anger, we lose peace. Under the pile of resentment, our heart beats heavily. As bitterness flows through us, life slows down. There's one thing that can move us forward out of anger, resentment, and bitterness but it's often forgotten or dismissed: Forgiveness.

Time and time again I hear people claim they can't forgive the other person. What they don't realize is that forgiveness is not for THEM, but for YOU. It allows you to move on. Another misnomer that I see thats an obstacle from forgiving is the misbelief that forgiveness means surrendering consequences. That's absolutely not true.

I like how Desmond Tutu said it:

Because forgiveness is like this: a room can be dank because you have closed the windows, you've closed the curtains. But the sun is shining outside, and the air is fresh outside. In order to get that fresh air, you have to get up and open the window and draw the curtains apart.
