God fulfills His purpose for me. I don't. You don't.
This isn't just His big overarching Purpose for our life but also the small daily purposes too. David, author of this Psalm, was anointed to be king. However, there was another king on the throne, Saul, who didn't care for David.
The animosity was so tense, Saul chased David to kill him. In 1 Samuel 24, David is hiding in a cave, when Saul goes into to relieve himself. This isn't a quick #1, there's trees for that. Nope, this is a 20 minute #2. With Saul distracted, David has the opportunity to slay his enemy but instead chooses to take a snippet off Saul's robe.
After Saul finished, David runs out and basically says, "Look and see! I could have killed you, but I didn't."
In other words, David could have put the control of obtaining his Purpose in his own hands - but he didn't.
But David knew that God is the one who fulfills His purposes, not man. If David started his reign with murder, what kind of trust would his people have in him; what precedent would he have started?
The only thing we can do to expedite His purpose in our life is to closely walk with Him.
